Photography - Dark Days in Granite City:

A photo for the cover of Dark Days in Granite City, a Post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel.

Karma is your average above-average achiever, going to school… Sometimes, nursing her photography habit and basking in traces of the pre-apocalyptic world. A young informant to the authorities in the middle of a drug-bust spree of her city, Karma gets into all the nooks and crannies to dig out the dealers, and in return they turn a blind eye to her escapades in illegal streetracing, after-curfew roaming, and taking the very drugs they are trying to bust. Her parents are too high on the air-con of their office buildings and their high-rise apartment and their perfect, quiet little lives to notice that Karma is slipping further and further into dangerous ground with the druglords, the kids of the underground and the corrupted authorities. When a bust uncovers some confusing records, karma is drawn into a scheme that will take her into the shadows of the city’s past, and reveal the truth behind the city’s walls.

Which me is my me

My first blog! Thought I’d give an introduction to my life in social media.

I am a student at AUT (Auckland University of Technology) and I am Studying “Graphic Design”. When people started asking me what I ‘do’, I was quickly faced with the dilemma of… well.. human nature really. I was very willing to explain what I did, But I didn’t have the right words to do it with, I knew that words like “Advertising” strangely could mean a cutthroat business type, and words such as “Graphics” could mean you sit in front of a computer all day shifting shapes around. “Design” has the potential to mean cutthroat unethical manipulative capitalist.. if you’re really that agressive.

After studying semiotics focusing on terminology, I understood that I had to “design” my words when explaining myself to people, to create a more accurate understanding of what i ‘do’. Hopefully using my current self-branding elective, I can replicate my own perception of design, and project it in a universal way. So that when people ask what I ‘do’ I can say;

I ‘do’ Creativity

I ‘do’ Invention

I ‘do’ Innovation

I ‘do’ ….

Painting reading researching illustratingbookbinding printing screenprinting lifedrawing Semiology Art history Design history portraits ethics characters heroes self marketing logos typography calligraphy comics childrens books Editorials textiles digital painting and MORE. ……

I’m on a bit of a quest to create a better understanding of Design as the huge topic it is. I think studying terminology has given me the view that people often come up with only one definition and a million associations with a word. I guess just keep an eye on me if you want to take this journey with me.
